It's time for a roll call.
For those who currently reside in the leagues, the roll call is like another invite.
There's a league email that is about to be sent to your teams, like, now.
The Subject of the message reads: "CCC FF - Returning Owners - ROLL CALL."
Make sure to check for the email. It could have been sent to your junk mail folder. At least one person I know had something sent by me through ESPN's servers . . . in his junk box.
It's really important to respond to the league email(s) you receive by August 16th, 2006, at 5 PM, Eastern Standard Time.
A question will be asked . . . are you IN, or are you OUT?
For those who are OUT . . .
1. No response from you means the same as OUT.
2. You cannot play because (insert reason here).
If you somehow wound up being OUT, but you actually wanted to be IN, shit happens, and I understand.
No worries! I'll talk with you, and I'll work with you. Email me here.
I've already talked to some of you, and I have an idea that you're ready to go, but this helps me take care of everyone. If I talked to you already, please respond anyway.
For those who are IN . . .
RESPOND TO THE EMAIL. If you have multiple teams in my leagues, you need only one response.
Here's what you include:
A. Your Preferred Nomenclature
B. Your ESPN Ownername and ID, and the Team(s) You Control in the CCC Leagues
C. Internet Home(s)/LiveJournal User ID(s)/Other (Optional, but I like to read your stuff)
D. Your Preferred Email (Optional, but very helpful to me)
A. Dr. Christopher Sauce1977 Strangelove, Esquire, aka Chris, Sauce, Sauce1977.
B. ESPN - Christopher Sauce1977 - ownername, sauce1977 - ID, Owner: The Wookies - CCC #1, The Freaky Raccoons - CCC #2, The Mustachioed Banditos, CCC #3, The Meat Grinders - CCC #4, and Hawai'i Warriors - CCC #5.
C. sauce1977 AT livejournal dot com, no spaces, AT is @, dot is .
D. LJ ID - sauce1977.
The response to this email is very important for a number of reasons.
1. You're an owner with a warm body who has a working email and is ready to go for the 2006 season.
I've never controlled a league where I could re-activate the league from the previous year. Usually, it's restarted from scratch, and everyone receives another invite. I've seen too many leagues, even paid keepers, where people have completely dropped off the radar. This makes sure you guys are ready to go, and anyone that isn't becomes an open slot for the upcoming Open House (new invitations).
The only problem you might have is if the email account you used with ESPN last year in CCC . . . is dead. That's possible. Again, shit happens, and I'm working with you by posting this here, in nflfans, and my own journal. Not everyone in CCC uses LJ, but there's enough information out there for everyone involved to notice.
2. While you're doing the roll call, double-check to see whether or not you can still login to your ESPN account. I've had people who forgot how to access it.
3. While you're in ESPN, in your league(s), make sure you can run their Java applet.
There's a little link in the league page titled "Draft Info." Click the link titled "Test Your Draft." A new page will load. Press the button that says "Press Button to Begin Draft Test." For some users, you might get a security warning popup. "Run" the program. If your CPU is ready to go, another popup will show up, announcing "Success" with a checkbox. If not, you need to update your Java. Follow the instructions to update Java on your CPU.
When this is finished, you're mostly set for your draft date(s).
Other things you might want to do before draft day . . .
From your team's page, there's a link titled "Pre-Rank Players." Click it, and that's your draft list. It looks pretty neat in comparison to last year's version. On draft day, it helps to have guys already on IR buried on your list, your preferred players ahead of those you'd rather not select, et cetera.
Need help with your draft list? ESPN's pretty neat this way for strategery. From the main league page, click on the link titled "Players." You'll get a list of free agents from last year, but if you click on the filter link titled "All," it'll populate the entire batch of players. The 2005 Season point totals show you just how the players did in fantasy points by CCC point structure from last year.
Your team has a really neat logo feature. It supports 200 x 170 images, jpg or gif, stored somewhere on the internet (LiveJournal Gallery, Photobucket, Flickr, et cetera). If you're into swanky graphics, it's there for you. If you're graphically-challenged, sometime after the leagues are drafted, I could make a jpg or gif for your team, if you ask me.
That's all I can think of for the moment.
Questions? Answers, by me, through the email or here.
To new people interested in CCC action . . . when this step is finished, I'll know how many open slots I'll have. There will be an Open House. Stay tuned.
